In the process, she created another record, which has now put her in the same bracket as Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Martina Hingis and others.
Iga Swiatek joins WTA legends for the most ‘Bagels’
Today, at the French Open second round, Swiatek won the first set, 6-0, which is called ‘bagel’ in tennis. Incidentally, she also inflicted a bagel in her previous match against Ukrainian, Lesia Tsurenko. Also, she has picked up a knack for securing bagels in the past few tournaments as well. Famously, she won the Miami Open final against Naomi Osaka, 6-0.
In total, she has 15 bagels this season, as of 26 May 2022. According to the statistics of WTA, Serena Williams won the most number (25) of sets 6-0 in a single season, and that was in 2013. In 2003 and 2005, Kim Clijsters had the most number of bagels, i.e. 13 and 15, respectively. Then Martina Hingis held this record on two separate occasions, namely 2000 and 2001, and in both of those years, she won 6-0, 17 and 16 times, respectively. Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka also had this record in 2012, when she had 15 bagels.

In 2020, Iga was relatively an unknown player on the WTA circuit. Despite that, she won the French Open title without dropping a single set throughout the entire tournament. In the final, she beat Sofia Kenin in straight sets to win her maiden Grand Slam title.
