Swiss tennis player Belinda Bencic and Tunisian Ons Jabeur went head-to-head in the final of the Charleston Open. While Jabeur emerged victorious, it wasn’t a one-sided contest, especially in the first set. Bencic seemed to be in the driving seat in the first set, which went to a tiebreaker. However, Jabeur produced two moments of magic during the tiebreaker from which Bencic could not recover.
Following the match, Bencic looked back on the moments that turned the final in Jabeur’s favor. She had some strong words for her Tunisian rival.

In her post-match interview, Bencic said that she would have to swallow the defeat. She also hoped that she encounters Jabeur again, but on a significantly bigger stage. “I will have to accept the fact, and hope that maybe I will play her in Grand Slam final and she will not do this.”

She followed it up by saying, “If she will do this, I will kill her.” It’s fair to say that Olympic Gold medalist Bencic was left quite shocked and stung following Jabeur’s surprise tweener.
However, she mentioned that she wouldn’t lose too much sleep over Jabeur’s shot. “It will be in front of my eyes, but next week I will not think about it anymore because we have a new tournament.”
Bencic’s sporting nature also comes to the fore
For competitive athletes, accepting a loss is always difficult. However, the best in the business tend to show their class by respecting the opposition. That’s what Bencic did following her humorous warning to Jabeur.

Bencic lauded Jabeur by saying, “I think she’s really a high-quality player, and she really has all the tools in her box.”
She went on to say, “When I’m playing my best, I can try to press her and push her.” However, she acknowledged the fact that Jabeur was better than her on the day. “She did all the things a little bit better today.”

2022 was one of Jabeur’s best year as a professional tennis player. She reached the finals at Wimbledon and the US Open as well. Unfortunately, on both occasions, she came out as second best. In February this year, she underwent knee surgery, and it seems like she is getting back to the peak of her powers.
