‘I Wasn’t Brave Enough to Go Out There’- Serena Williams Recently Disclosed Big Regret About Not Listening to Late Friend Virgil Abloh’s Advice

Serena Williams, other than tennis, has a big thing for fashion as well. The 23-time Grand Slam champion, and her elder sister, Venus Williams, have walked the carpet of a variety of fashion-related events. Also, because of their active participation, they are good friends with the people in the industry.

Serena was very close to the late renowned designer, Virgil Abloh. They worked in collaboration to create a magnificent outfit for her 2018 French Open. Speaking of which, she recently disclosed how much she regrets not trusting his vision fully.

A few months ago, in a film of Vogue titled V, Williams sang praises for the prolific designer who passed away in 2021, and opened up about the lingering feeling. She said, “So that collaboration for the French Open, I still kind of regret not doing what Virgil told me to do.”

Thereafter, she further added, “He wanted me to wear this long skirt with the crazy train, and then a cape with a train, and then just walk out on the court… I wasn’t brave enough to go out there on all the red clay and just walk out in this train of like the Met Gala [level] at the French Open.”

The former World no.1 stepped on the clay courts of the Roland Garros, dressed in a black catsuit with a red waistband. Fans were stunned and linked the new mother to a superhero in an ensemble. Serena was making a comeback in the season, post delivering Olympia in September of 2017. Therefore, the power her outfit held was immense, and Abloh’s idea might have made it grander.

The movie King Richard was released in 2021. It showcased the struggles and achievements of the Williams sisters from their father Richard Williams’ point of view. The movie did a great job of pleasing both audiences and critics. As a result of which it received six Oscar nominations.

Serena and Venus attended this year’s award night, dolled in very elegant attires. While Venus dazzled in a white Elie Saab gown with silver trim, Serena kept her glam sleek and simple. She looked absolutely amazing in a pink Gucci gown with black floral detailing on the bust and shoulders. Also, she accessorized the outfit with back lace gloves and wore nude lipstick and cat-eye makeup.
