Here’s the reason that she gave for skipping Serena Williams’ match.

Danielle Collins was confident of Serena Williams’ victory

Serena was not in great form entering the last Grand Slam of her career. The 40-year-old returned after a long injury break to feature in the Wimbledon Championships this year. After losing her first-round match there, Williams played in three other matches in the American swing.

However, she managed to win only one of them. Serena went into the US Open after a heavy defeat against Emma Raducanu in the Cincinnati Masters. It made everyone believe Serena might not go past the first round in the US Open. However, Danielle Collins was pretty sure of Serena making it to the second round.

“I mean, to be honest, I knew it wasn’t over for Serena yet. I had full confidence in her. So I was enjoying dinner… I just kind of knew I was going to get to see her play again, so I had full confidence,” Collins said.

The 40-year-old will next face Anett Kontaveit of Estonia in her second-round encounter. Meanwhile, Collins won her first-round match in the US Open defeating four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in straight sets.

Serena to play doubles in the US Open

Serena Williams will partner with her elder sister Venus Williams to play women’s doubles in her last US Open. The duo has accepted the wild card entry to the tournament and will begin their campaign tomorrow. While both Serena and Venus have achieved a lot of success in singles individually, their doubles prowess is often ignored.
