Aryna Sabalenka, the world number 2, lifted her first-ever grand slam last year in Melbourne at the Australian Open. And she has repeated the feat this year as she claimed her 2nd Australian Open title today against Qinwen Zheng. Even though she had an amazing year last year as well, and this new tournament season has started off well for her, she had to suffer some tough losses last season.

One of the losses that hurt her the most was the semifinal match between her and Coco Gauff at the US Open 2023. She recently opened up about it in one of her interviews, along with some other losses.

In one of the interviews she gave, Aryna Sabalenka was asked about how she coped with the loss against Coco Gauff in the semifinals last year at the US Open and how it affected her progress.

To which she responded, “There is not going to be big wins without really tough losses. I was very down after those matches. I was crying, I was smashing the racquet. I was really crazy. But after a day or two, we sit down with the team, thinking, about what we have to do to fix it and make sure this will never happen again. So, it’s always a process, you just have to enjoy and trust the process and believe that next time you’ll do better.”

Sabalenka’s candid response on how the loss affected her truly shows that she is accepting of it and also wants to make sure that she gets better than before. Well, we can all agree that she did. Her 2 grand slam truly proves that.

But this title not only marks a great start for her 2024 season, but it also got her a record that only one other player had up until now. Let’s check that out!
