Martina Navratilova once shared details about her parents in an exclusive interview

In 1975, Navratilova defected from Czechoslovakia and became a U.S. citizen in 1981. This decision had a significant impact on her tennis career. She was no longer able to compete in major tournaments for several years. However, Navratilova persisted and continued to train and improve her game.

In the interview, Navratilova shared, ” Growing up in a communist country, women athletes are just as valued as male athletes. The only time my mom was trying to hold me back was when I was beating a guy in kindergarden on sprints. I was 5 years old. I was bragging and all. My mom was like, you needn’t win, you let the boys win once a while. So I eased up a bit, and still I beat him but not by much.”
