23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams recently appeared in a podcast with her good friend, Meghan Markle. In that interview, she opened up about writing her retirement essay in the September issue of Vogue Magazine and how she wanted to evolve away from tennis.

Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, recently launched her new podcast named ‘Archetypes’ and during their discussion, Markle showed Serena one of her old interviews as the legendary tennis star looked back at her stunning answer to a particular question.

Serena Williams talks about one of her childhood videos

Markle said, I was watching a clip, I think we have when you were 11 and they said if you were a tennis player, who would you want to be like? Do you remember this? Do you remember what you said?

The 23-time Grand Slam champion replied, I do. I said I wanted people to be like me. Honestly, I couldn’t have written that better. I don’t know why I said that, because, quite frankly, I kind of sucked at the time, but maybe I knew something. I don’t know.

They duo were talking about the famous interview of Serena Williams along with her sister Venus, where the interviewer asked young Serena who she would want to be. Serena’s response became an epitome of confidence for youngsters.

I’d like other people to be like me,” the American said.

Safe to say, she proved her words right as she scripted an iconic chapter in women’s tennis for more than two decades. Moreover, many current and next-gen players idolize her and look to emulate her career path.

Is Serena the Goat?

There have been scores of debates going around regarding the greatest tennis player of all time. It would be a disgrace to not have Serena’s name in the discussion as she would rightfully be on the top of the pile alongside some great names like Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Martina Navratilova, and Chris Evert.
