“I Just Got Blown Off”: Alexis Ohanian Recalls the Smooth Move He Played to Impress Serena Williams Which Involved a Trip to Paris

Alexis Ohanian and Serena Williams married in 2017. The two also had their daughter, Olympia Ohanian, the same year they married. The two had quite the story of how they first met each other. Ohanian found out that Williams was trying to get rid of him at first but changed her mind later. However, Ohanian played his cards as well. After they first met and exchanged numbers, Williams made an empty invitation to Ohanian to watch her match in the French Open. He revealed what he planned in The Late Night Show.

Alexis Ohanian’s smooth moves to woo Serena Williams

In an interview with Stephen Colbert, the co-founder of Reddit revealed his strategy to impress The Queen of the Court. He said that Williams asked for his number because she wanted to ask him about technology and investing in businesses she was interested in. But Ohanian thought she had an ulterior motive, but she was being purely professional. 

 She asked him to come to France to watch her match. But she did not intend to take him up on the offer. Ohanian called it an L.A. invite. “One thing led to another, and she made what I would call an L.A. invite for me to come see her play in France. But she had made the invite with no intention of actually taking me up on it.“

Ohanian thought that the worst-case scenario if Williams blew him off, he would hang out with his friends in Paris. So as he arrived, he let her know he would be in Paris. He also told her that it was a good coincidence as she would be there as well. 

“I figured worst-case scenario, if she blows me off for the weekend, I have a great story of how I just got blown off for the weekend, I have friends in there, I was gonna have a good time. So I let her know I was going to be in town, and it was a perfect coincidence; I was supposed to be in Paris, anyway. I wasn’t.“

Eventually, the two ended up walking down the streets of Paris anyway. As time went on, the two fell in love and ended up as the power couple we see today.
