Without a doubt, 19-year-old American Cori ?Coco? Gauff is one of the most talented youngsters present in the WTA circuit today. Born in a humble background to parents Corey and Candi Gauff, Coco started playing tennis at just the age of six. Making her professional debut on the ITF women?s circuit in 2018, Coco Gauff quickly rose to fame after her iconic victory against one of her idols, Venus Williams in Wimbledon 2019.
Coco’s father, Corey Gauff, who works as her sports coach, has had a major contribution to the success of his daughter’s tennis career. In Coco’s Father’s Day post this year, she has expressed how much her father means to her.

Corey Gauff, a former athlete himself, left no stone unturned to make sure Coco becomes the player she is today. He worked as a healthcare executive for a long time but later left the job in order to work as the head coach of his daughter. Coco is well aware of the sacrifices and hard work of her father that propelled her career in such a positive direction. On the occasion of Father’s Day, she shared a picture of herself along with her father on her Instagram handle. She expressed her gratitude for Corey, as she captioned the image, “I have your back and you always have mine. Love you and Happy Father’s Day ?????? @coreygauff”.

Corey Gauff identified his daughter’s talents on the tennis court very early and took the duty upon himself to coach her and prepare her for the world of professional tennis. Having no experience in tennis, Corey took inspiration from Richard Williams, who in a similar fashion dedicated his life to training his daughters Serena and Venus – the legendary Williams sisters, during the early stages of their careers.

Gauff looks to make a mark at Wimbledon, amid much hype
Currently placed at number 7 in the WTA rankings, Coco Gauff will aim to win her maiden grand slam title at the upcoming Wimbledon championships. There is already much hype around the 19-year-old before the 3rd major of the year. Many fans slammed Wimbledon for giving youngsters like Coco Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz more prominence in its promotional video as compared to that of 7-time Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic.
Gauff will hope to look past all the hullabaloo and focus on the tournament ahead. With her father/head coach by her side, she can indeed be a threat to others.
