Retirement is a big move for any working professional. For sports players, it becomes an even bigger deal as most retire in their mid or late 30s. Serena Williams retired at 41 and remains an active person in other areas. Before retiring, she opened up about her venture capital business, which she named Serena Ventures. Being a parent and a business owner, Serena lives in overdrive, and, according to her, she has no idea how she can relax. Williams runs a business which has amassed $111 million as of March 2022 and aims to empower the marginalized.

Serena Williams is not able to relax!

Williams founded Serena Ventures in 2014 with the aim of providing opportunities for business owners belonging to underserved communities. Being one of the top players and running a large company, along with other ventures, would lead a person to the habit of working constantly. Relaxing becomes a rare occasion, and one tends to forget to kick back.

Serena Williams has ended up in a similar situation. In an interview with Gayle King of CBS Mornings, Serena Williams said she has no idea on how she can relax and that she has to schedule her relaxing time. “I don’t know how to relax, it’s so hard for me to relax,” Serena told Gayle King. “I have to schedule it in my schedule. I’m not kidding.

When Serena helped boost Selena Gomez’s business

Serena Williams was true to her word when she says she is interested in investing in businesses. Her venture capital firm has invested in more than 60 companies around the world. After putting her racket down, she wants to drive more of her focus towards investing. In December 2022, she invested in Selena Gomez’s startup, Wondermind, which aims to work for mental health.

The startup is valued at $100 million after its first round of funding, and leading the investment was Serena Ventures. Williams’ $5 million investment was the lead investment and provided a sturdy scaffold for Wondermind. According to reports, Serena Ventures will be working closely with Wondermind and help their creative team as well.
