Chris Evert is a strong woman, both mentally and physically. She fought the ill and narrow-minded thoughts of people to bring light to women’s tennis. Then, by creating one of the best tennis rivalries ever with Martina Navratilova, she proved her physical strength.

Evert was more of a player who believed in reading opponents’ emotions and simultaneously masking her own. The 18 times Grand Slam champion’s game apart from her on-court skills relied majorly on her hold on the atmosphere of the match. Her entire career, she never let her emotions take control. But the topic of her deceased younger sister in a recent interview shattered her.

Chris Evert about her sister’s bravery

Evert, while speaking with Amna Nawaz, stumbled upon a question of if there was something that she wish she could tell her younger sibling. At first she chuckled and said, “That I would tell her? Oh, God, you just know to answer — ask these questions.”

Then tears came down like rain, and all the walls were broken. The former World no.1 with weakened defenses said, “Oh my God. I’m sorry. I talk about this so much. And I have never cried like this.”

Thereafter, she added, “But I just can’t believe how strong she was, and that she never complained. She had ports, and she had incisions all over her body. And she was down to 80 pounds. I saw her go through this. And she would either be quiet or she tried to muster up a smile.”

Jeanne Evert Dubin, like her sister, was a professional tennis ace. Dublin made up to the third round of the US Open, achieved the career highest ranking of World on 28 and retired in the year 1978. Following that, she diverted her energy into guiding young athletes until tested positive for ovarian cancer. After fighting bravely for almost two and a half year she said goodbye to the world at the age of 62.

 Evert’s struggle against cancer

The seven times French Open champion soon after her sister’s demise underwent a preventive hysterectomy in which traces of the deadly disease were detected in her fallopian tubes. She was diagnosed with stage one ovarian cancer. Following that, Evert decided to opt for immediate medical help, as cancer has the capacity to jump stages in a span of days.
