American tennis legend Serena Williams is in the twilight of her career. The 40-year-old has already announced her retirement and she will last feature in the US Open 2022. Meanwhile, the 23-time Grand Slam champion caught up with her long-time friend Meghan Markle. The two ladies had a conversation on the podcast and discussed various challenges they faced as women with ambitions.

Serena also revealed a horrific incident when she had to take her injured daughter to hospital, a night before an important match in the French Open 2018.
Serena Williams speaks about her guilt
Back in 2018, Serena was featuring in her first Grand Slam as a mother. The former world number one was having a hard time managing the motherhood duties along with tennis. Serena revealed in her chat with Meghan Markle that her daughter Olympia fell from a high chair and injured her wrist. Serena had a match the next day, but she had to spend all night in the hospital.
“So that year I had Olympia, and I had a match the next day and that night, she fell out of her highchair and broke her wrist,” Serena said. Further, the 40-year-old added, “I literally couldn’t think. I felt so guilty. I just, anyway. So she fell. We went to the hospital, and she had a small tear, a break in her wrist, so she had to get a cast and we didn’t get back ‘til like four in the morning.”

Serena remembered feeling guilty all night and had significantly little sleep before the French Open match the next day.“I was so mad at myself for even allowing that to happen. So I think I got like 30 minutes of sleep,” she added. Although Serena somehow managed to win the match but she was emotionally exhausted. “I somehow managed to win, but I was so emotionally spent and just like so emotionally drained that it was, it was crazy,” she added.
Serena yet to win her first match after declaring retirement
The 23-time Grand Slam champion returned after a long hiatus in Wimbledon 2022. After a disappointing first-round exit, she made her plans clear for the US Open participation. The 40-year-old also signed up for the National Bank Open and the Cincinnati Masters to prepare for the last Grand Slam of the year. However, the legend later revealed her plans to retire after the US Open.

When her interview with the declaration was out, Serena already had won the first-round match of the National Bank Open. However, she couldn’t go past the second round and lost to Belinda Bencic in straight sets. Further, the former world number 1 lost her opening match of Cincinnati Masters against Emma Raducanu.
