However, freak accidents sometimes happen, and injuries force players to take another route altogether. Anett Kontaveit, former World No.2, is someone who faced many problems due to injuries. Unfortunately, her condition ended up in a much worse state than other players, and she has now decided to retire from the sport. Amidst the somber environment, Kontaveit, in a recent interview, elaborated on her day-to-day life with Lumbar Degenerative Disc Disease.
Kontaveit announced her retirement on June 20th. She shared a post where she detailed why she decided to hang up the racket. While her fans lamented the news, Paula Badosa penned a beautiful note for her rival.

Former world number 2 Anett Kontaveit announced her retirement after the Wimbledon Championships at the age of 27. Unfortunately, Kontaveit’s career has been riddled with injuries. In the past, her performance in slams has not been much to talk about. Although struggling due to injury issues, she was thriving somewhat this year.
However, she is unable to tolerate the pain anymore. The Estonian player shared her troubles with injuries with iNews UK in an interview. She said, “When I stand up for a while, it starts aching. When I sit for too long starts aching.” Kontaveit further added that, “So when I do like normal things, I feel it as well.”
She realized the existence of the condition last year since her back had been uncomfortable constantly. Kontaveit eventually received a diagnosis and found out that she had lumbar disc degeneration. This condition did not allow for proper training and recovery, which meant that her tennis career had come to an end.

As Kontaveit shared the news of her retirement on her Instagram page, Badosa wrote a beautiful farewell note. Badosa shared Kontaveit’s post on her Instagram page and wished the Estonian player luck in her future ventures. She also pointed out the brutality of the sport and praised her career.
