Paula Badosa had a dream season on the tour in 2021. The 24-year-old Spaniard won her maiden WTA title at the Serbian Open in May. After drawing the curtains on a successful season, Badosa recently gave an in-depth interview to Punto de Break. When asked to speak about who would she like to face in the future, she immediately responded with the Romanian, Simona Halep.

The Spaniard truly admires Halep’s style of play. She believes Halep possesses both aggressive and defensive attributes which have helped her achieve huge things.

Paula Badosa wants to face Simona Halep

Paula Badosa has thoroughly impressed the tennis world with her phenomenal performances this year. She overcame former World No. 1, Victoria Azarenka, to record her first Masters tournament win at Indian Wells in October.

In a recent interview, Badosa opened up about her “dream match”. She wants to face the two-time Grand Slam champion, Simona Halep. Throughout her life, Badosa has adored the playing style of the Romanian.

Badosa said, “I would love to play against Halep, I have admired her a lot, I like her style of play so complete. I don’t think we are much alike playing but I am very attracted to her style, it goes far beyond being defensive or aggressive. She has both, so I would love to go up against her to see how she does it.”

The contest between Paula Badosa and Simona Halep would be definitely a scintillating one to watch. Halep definitely has plenty of admirers on the WTA tour as teenager Emma Raducanu is another big fan of the Romanian.

Halep reaches another milestone

Despite struggling with injuries throughout the season, Simona Halep managed to finish amongst the Top 20 players for the 9th year in a row. The Romanian reached the zenith of World No. 1 in October 2017.

After that, she incredibly lifted the French Open title in 2018 and Wimbledon in 2019. The 30-years-old is regarded as an all-rounder performer on the WTA circuit, accustomed to play both aggressive and defensive styles of tennis.
