Known as America’s Sweetheart, Chris Evert had a legendary career, as many consider her one of the top five players of all time. During her tennis career, she gained immense popularity wherever she went. Once in 1981, she met with Lady Diana, a former member of the British Royal Family.

Notably, Lady Diana had wedding jitters, as she was about to marry Charles, Prince of Wales. So, she wanted to have a conversation with Evert, as she also recently married British tennis player John Lloyd.

Lady Diana’s marriage conversation with tennis legend Chris Evert

Notably, in 1981, Evert won the Wimbledon Championships and Lady Diana was present at the Centre Court at Wimbledon. After the match, Diana asked Evert to join her for a cup of tea as she wanted to have that marriage conversation with the tennis player.

Talking about her wedding to Prince Charles, Diana said to Evert, I am so nervous about everything, I hardly know what to do.

In reply, Evert said, I assured Lady Diana that marriage was great and she has nothing to be concerned about… I told her she should relax in the same way as I try to calm myself before a game, I told her, I try to think of other things but of course, she has so much to do.

In 1981, Lady Diana tied the knot with Prince Charles. As for Evert, she got married two years earlier in 1979 to British tennis star John Lloyd. Although Evert gave some valuable marriage advice to Diana, her own marriage with Lloyd lasted only eight years, as the couple separated in 1987.

After meeting at Wimbledon in 1978, Evert and Lloyd fell in love with each other, and a year later, they tied the knot. As mentioned earlier, they decided to part ways in 1987, and a year later, she married the famous ski racer, Andy Mill.

This marriage lasted the most; however, after 18 years, they decided to part ways. Two years after her second divorce, she married one of the greatest golfers of all time, Greg Norman. Sadly, their marriage only lasted one year, as they filed for divorce in 2009.

Since then, Evert has been single, as she had to battle ovarian cancer after losing her sister to the same cancer. After going through the chemotherapy, she has been doing pretty well at the moment. Apart from that, she is also working as a commentator for ESPN and currently covering the US Open.
