The 23-time Grand Slam winner, Serena Williams has announced some terrible news concerning her comeback. Unfortunately, she won’t be competing at the Australian Open 2022.
Just a few days ago, Serena said she’s confident about playing at the ‘Happy Slam. However, today she confirmed this shocking news. It appears to be that Williams is still not fully recovered from the hamstring injury she suffered at Wimbledon 2021.

Serena Williams has withdrawn from next year’s Australian Open. She announced the sad news with a heart-melting message. “ Following the advice of my medical team, I have decided to withdraw from this year’s Australian Open. While this is never an easy decision to make, I am not where I need to be physically to compete”, she quoted.

Talking about how much she loves playing at AO, she said, ” Melbourne is one of my favorite cities to visit and I look forward to playing at the AO every year. I will miss seeing the fans but am excited to return and compete at my highest level.”
Well, surely all the tennis fans must be deeply saddened to hear such awful news. We wish Serena Williams a speedy recovery and hope to see her back at the tennis court at the earliest.

Serena’s last match on the tour
The American, Serena Williams played her last match on the WTA Tour at the Wimbledon 2021. In her opening round, she faced Aliaksandra Sasnovic. However, in the first set itself, she was forced to retire, owing to her hamstring injury.

Williams, along with her fans were devastated to witness this unfortunate scene at the grass-court of Wimbledon. As she walked off the court, fans gave a standing ovation to the 23-time Grand Slam champion, wishing to see her back soon. Since then, she hasn’t been back on the tour nor resumed her training.
