Not many players can boast of a tennis career that has been as successful as that of Chris Evert’s. But for the ‘Ice Maiden’, the biggest moment of her life was achieved off the court, when she gave birth to her first son, Alexander James Mill. In an old interview, she talked about her experience of being around her firstborn.

The overjoyed emotions and love for her first child were aptly described by Evert in the interview. She went on to have two more sons with her then-husband, Alpine skier, Andy Mill.
Chris Evert on seeing her first son
The legendary American is an 18-time major champion. However, no victory gave her the complete bliss she felt when she saw her first son, Alexander James Mill. She talked about the experience of seeing her first son in an old interview. The player at the time of the interview was with her first son, who was four months old at that point. She looked into his eyes and said, “You have this little person, this little life in your arms.”

She continued, “And he has these big blue eyes and you don’t know where in the world he got them and he just melts my heart.” Her overbearing motherly instincts took a hold of her as she said, “I never want to go anywhere without him. I’m his slave.”

Only a mother can understand this undying love for her child. Evert adjusted nicely to her life outside of tennis after her retirement. She focused on raising her kids properly and being there for them.
Other players who flaunted their love for their children like Evert
This is not the first time we are hearing about women preferring to be with their children over their profession. Apart from Chris Evert, a recent example is that of Serena Williams. She mentioned during in her essay on Vogue that she wants to focus on her daughter, Olympia, more.
