‘It’s Also Queen Oracene’ – Oscar Nominated King Richard Actress Expresses the Importance of Serena Williams’ Mother

The movie, ‘King Richard’, has lately been receiving positive attention. It is a biopic of Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams. After receiving lots of praise from the critics, the movie got nominated for an Academic Award for best picture. Apart from that, it also received 5 other nominations, which is a huge achievement for this movie.

Although the movie was about Richard Williams, it told a heartfelt story about Oracene Price, the mother of the Williams Sisters. 

The actress, Aunjanue Ellis played Oracene’s role in the movie with sheer perfection. Because of the movie, we got to know so much about Oracene that we didn’t know previously.

King Richard is also a story about Oracene Price

Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, King Richard told a beautiful story about Richard Williams and his struggles to raise both Serena and Venus. However, this movie was not just about Richard Williams. As the mother of both Venus and Serena, Oracene Price also played a pretty important role in raising two future Grand Slam champions.  

According to actress Aunjanue Ellis, the movie told the beautiful story of “Queen Oracene.”

“Ms. Oracene was as instrumental as Mr. Williams was and I think that to me is what is so exciting… yes, it’s called King Richard, but it’s also queen Oracene,” Ellis said.

The actress also praised all the actors and actresses that portrayed the beautiful family of Venus and Serena. “They were just wonderful young women and that sense of family is there because you were watching a group of people who essentially became family,” Ellis stated. 

The movie told an authentic story

The sister of Venus and Serena, Isha Price, was the executive producer of the movie. According to her, the movie told an authentic and real story of the childhood story of the Williams Sisters.

“For us, authenticity and honesty is a really important part of making sure that we were gonna be able to do this project,” Isha said. 

Certainly, the movie touched many hearts because of its authentic story. Because of that, King Richard also received an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.
