Romanian World No. 3 Simona Halep is making a much-anticipated return at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix 2021. Adding to her pleasure, her coach Darren Cahill will stay with her throughout the clay-court swing ahead.
Previously, the 29-year-old Romanian pulled out from the Miami Open, citing a shoulder injury. However, she had promised to come back healthy for her favorite season in tennis, the clay season. And so, she is here.

Simona Halep is confident when coach Darren Cahill is around
Simona Halep started her 2021 season in Melbourne, participating in WTA Gippsland and the Australian Open. During that time, she had to receive coaching via cellular phones as traveling in the ongoing pandemic is quite strenuous.
Fortunately, Darren, who helped her win two Grand Slam titles and reached World No. 1, decided to travel to Romania. And since he cannot return to Australia now, he would stay on for the clay-court season with the Romanian.
“Yes, he will be with me because he can’t get back home,” Simona laughed. “So, he’s stuck with me. Yes, he has been in Romania for one week.”
Furthermore, the former World No. 1 explained how positive she feels with her coach traveling with her. She also opened up on her rehabilitation in Romanian and hopes to win the WTA Stuttgart Open 2021 title.
“We trained very well back home. Now, he’s here for the first time, and it’s nice to have him, the whole clay-court season, because it’s my favourite season, and to have him, means a lot. I have confidence when he’s around, and yeah, we have great days,” Halep said.
Before Halep, Cahill helped Australian Lleyton Hewitt and American Andre Agassi to reach World No. 1. He stayed with Simona for the 2017 and 2018 season and re-joined her for 2020 and is since with her.
