Cordae explained why he included his incarcerated brother in his latest album

Police arrested Cordae’s rapper brother Simba and charged him with armed robbery. For this, he was sentenced to 24 years in prison. The rapper’s latest album starts with “Shiloh’s Intro” where his brother freestyles over the phone from prison. Osaka’s boyfriend spoke about why he included his brother in an interview with GRAMMY.com in January. He said, “Well for one, that’s my brother Shiloh. He’s in prison right now serving a 24-year sentence. He used to rap, we used to rap all the time together, and I felt like it was necessary, but also dope from the creative side, to include him on the intro for the album to shed some light on him and his situation.”

He further added, “It also kind of put the pieces [of the album] together because he’s seeing things from a bird’s eye view perspective — more so from a caged bird’s perspective, if you would. I think it starts [the album] off beautifully.”

The rapper began dating the tennis superstar Naomi Osaka, in 2019, and the duo have managed to keep their personal lives a secret despite the media attention. After winning the first round of the 2022 Australian Open, the superstar used tennis to promote her boyfriend’s new album. Osaka wrote FABEV referring to the rapper’s ‘Bird’s Eye View’ album on the lens of the camera.
