Some people just don’t age. They continue to defy their age and keep playing for eternity. If we extend it to tennis, the first name that pops up in everyone’s mind would be Martina Navratilova. The Czech-American legend’s longevity knows no bounds. She played tennis till the age of 50 and kept succeeding in the doubles field till the very end of her career.
Recent times had been hard for her, as she engaged in a battle against cancer. After overcoming the disease, she looks to gain back her fitness and to everyone’s surprise, she stepped on the courts of SW19 again this year!

Every year Wimbledon invites former legends of the game to play invitational doubles. This time, they decided to call their finest-ever champion. The 9-time Wimbledon singles champion Martina Navratilova stepped onto the court again and turned back the clock. She partnered with Mark Woodforde for a mixed doubles encounter on court 18.

The duo lost?3-6, 3-6 but Navratilova once again managed to captivate the fans with her elegance. After the match, the Czech-American legend expressed how grateful and lucky she was to be back on the court. She said on Twitter, “It was amazing to be playing again, so lucky!!!“.

Watching Martina Navratilova step back on the court was a great feeling. The last couple of years have not been easy for her. The battle against cancer took a toll on her physical and mental health. However, Martina has always been the toughest of all the soldiers. Getting back on the court after her recovery wasn’t easy by any means but she couldn’t turn down an offer to be at SW19 again.

Navratilova found it impossible to play tennis after cancer
Cancer is arguably the worst possible disease. Even after defeating cancer, survivors find it difficult to regain full fitness. To maintain their physique, it’s absolutely necessary for the survivors to work out. Navratilova would often try and step up on the practice courts with her former rival and current fast friend Chris Evert. The cancer survivors, however, could not maintain the same energy on the court with regressed stamina levels.
