Iga Swiatek has astounded the tennis realm with her commendable performance on the court over the past few years. Her rise to the top in a short span of time is proof of her breathtaking talent, which in return has garnered her a lot of fans. However, Beatriz Haddad Maia became the Brazilian hope of getting a French Open title. So, the cheers in the audience proved to be confusing for both the players.
Nonetheless, the passionate cheers of the Polish and Brazilian fans only added to the competitive environment. Despite the confusion, the World No. 1 Iga Swiatek channeled the cheering to her benefit.

Iga Swiatek agrees with Beatriz Haddad Maia over the “cheering” confusion
The Polish player was sending shots like lightning bolts across the court to defend her French Open title. On the other side, Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia was putting up a fight to add to the Brazilian Grand Slam hope.
Consequently, the cheers from both Polish and Brazilian fans were equally competitive. So much so that the two players did not know for whom the crowd was cheering.
Swiatek confessed during the post-match interview, “Honestly, I don’t know what you guys were shouting for the whole match. It was “Iga”. It was “Bia”. I heard it differently every time.”

Swiatek assumed things got more serious than expected, as she said, “I guess there was a bit of a fight between Polish & Brazilian fans.”
Similar to her opinion, Beatriz Haddad Maia also got confused over what the fans were shouting. Nonetheless, both players ended up enjoying the competitive vibe.

The cheers were confusing indeed and the Brazilian player confessed that she got distracted while figuring out what the fans were shouting.

She stated, “Sometimes I think I was confused because I was listening… ‘Bia’ or ‘Iga.’ I didn’t know if it was ‘Biga’.” Nonetheless, being a soccer-dominated nation, cheering to the heart’s content is Brazilians’ forte. Complementing that, Maia said, “Brazilians are loud,” with a smile.
