Coco Gauff has always kept it real both on and off the court. The American tennis sensation might be one of the youngest players on the circuit to have won a Grand Slam. But she is also the humble tennis celebrity one would not usually anticipate! The 20-year-old has displayed utmost maturity while dealing with tough opponents on the court, a testament to her growth over the last 6 years she has spent as a pro. However, it’s not just her tennis that has grown, but also her.

Despite entering and gaining fame at a very young age, Gauff has stayed down-to-earth in her approach to life. She doesn’t shy away from speaking her heart out and has been vocal about her emotions. As she did during the 2022 French Open final against Iga Swiatek. And again at the Roland Garros, in a post-match interview. She didn’t stutter even a bit while putting her point across when questioned about complaints!

When asked about her views on late finishes (scheduling) and players’s health and safety, Coco Gauff remained true to her nature. While stressing the fact that complaining about things is not her way, she considers herself to be blessed. Gauff humbly said, “I obviously don’t want to complain too much about it because we are very blessed and privileged to be playing for you know, a lot of money .”

Though Gauff is doing what she enjoys and loves, not many people get that opportunity and have to work according to their needs. She further added, “And there are people working real jobs under worst conditions for less money trying to get by. So it’s a balance between two things; yes, things can get better. But also for me probably privately I would say, I wouldn’t complain.”

With the ongoing line of her thoughts, one would certainly question, where this maturity in a 20-year-old comes from. And they wouldn’t have to look around as the answer lies in her family. She explained why complaining about something is not for her, “It’s just tough for me knowing you know where some of my family comes from…And I think about the people hearing this. Yes, if I was a person working, I would be upset to hear players complain.” And the World No.3 ends it at the need to maintain balance, as everyone is doing the best they can.

Coco Gauff’s brother carrying on the family legacy

As Coco prepares to fight it out for the French Open trophy in Paris, her little brother, Cameron, is all set to begin his junior high school. While carrying on the family legacy to play and study! Like Coco, Cameron is also an active sportsperson, though not in tennis, but he is already an MVP at a football tournament.

And the most heartwarming moment of all was the presence of the Grand Slam champion’s cancer survivor grandmother. Coco’s grandmother has been an inspiration, for not just her, but the whole locality by being the first African-American student in an all-white school in 1961.
