While the tennis community is currently discussing various dynamics of the ATP and WTA Finals that lie ahead, the US presidential election is also getting its fair share of attention. Former pros have been extending their thoughts about one of the most vital events in geopolitics. With Donald Trump and Kamala Harris as the two presidential candidates, the WTA legend Pam Shriver came up with her own observation earlier today.
Shriver entered the political conversation as she reflected on how the political landscape has shifted since her first opportunity to vote in 1980. “I recall in 1980 at 18 years of age I had a choice to vote for Carter or Reagan—two decent, stable candidates for President. Now in 2024 my 3 kids can vote for president for the 1st time, and they only have one decent and stable choice,” Shriver posted on X, tagging the Democrat nominee and the current American vice-president Kamala Harris.

The presidential race between Harris and former president Donald Trump has become a nail-biter as both candidates are locked in a very close battle. Polls show the outcome will depend heavily on swing states, undecided voters, and voter turnout, especially in crucial battleground regions.
Issues like the U.S. economy, women’s healthcare, and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East are at the forefront of voters’ minds. As election day approaches, there’s a strong possibility the results will not be clear immediately due to anticipated delays in vote counting. No matter the outcome of the election, political analysts expect a divided Congress, which could create bigger challenges for Harris if Republicans win the Senate.
Coming back to Pam Shriver, she isn’t the only renowned non-political figure who has shared her opinion on the US presidential election. Even the Pop star Taylor Swift did so previously and her post got a lot of attention too, from the tennis community in geberal.

Tennis stars react to Taylor Swift’s viral endorsement post
Taylor Swift openly declared her support for Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. In a September 11 Instagram post, the singer detailed her reasons for backing the Democrat candidates. “She fights for the rights and causes, I believe, need a warrior to champion them,” Swift wrote, praising Harris for her leadership and calm demeanor. The pop star also expressed admiration for Walz by highlighting his decades of advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive rights, and in vitro fertilization (IVF). The post quickly started attracting immense attention and ended up receiving over 7.6 million likes within hours.
Several high-profile names, including Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian, and the American tennis star Taylor Fritz’s girlfriend Morgan Riddle, liked Swift’s post. While their likes primarily showed support for Swift and nothing else, it fueled speculation within the tennis community about their possible political leanings.

Although neither Ohanian nor Riddle has publicly stated their political stance for the 2024 election, their interaction with Swift’s post has not gone unnoticed. The American tennis player Christopher Eubanks and former Australian player Rennae Stubbs also liked Swift’s post.
Swift ended her message by reminding her audience of the significance of voter registration, especially for first-time voters, and encouraged early voting. While she might have made her political leaning absolutely clear, the decision is ultimately up to each voter.
