Aryna Sabalenka's team celebrating drunk—Is this the best way to enjoy a hard-earned victory?

Aryna Sabalenka’s US Open victory wasn’t just a triumph on the court—it was the fulfillment of a dream she’d surely envisioned long before stepping into the final. With her powerful game and unyielding determination, Sabalenka not only took down American favorite Jessica Pegula in a commanding performance but also clinched her first-ever US Open title. The celebrations, as you’d expect, were bound to be just as electrifying as her win. But as the newly crowned champion prepared to revel in her triumph, she made a special wish—one that went beyond just herself. She turned her thoughts to the people behind the scenes, her team.

The Belarusian tennis star engaged in an interview on the WTA Star Podcast on September 8th, just a day after her US Open victory. She deliberated on a wide range of topics including her victory in the tournament and her plan forward. Sabalenka highlighted that she would celebrate the victory with her team with grandeur and expressed a special wish regarding the party.

Speaking in the interview, the World No. 2 said, “I am not sure if it’s going to be tonight or tomorrow but, my hopes is going to be a lot of fun a lot of drinks. I hope we are gonna have a lot of fun with the team and I am gonna see my team drunk, atleast for once, I have to see that.” However, she was quick to correct herself as she admitted that she had seen some members of her team who had been drunk on certain occasions. But there was one member of the team who seemed to have never lost his sobriety.

Continuing further in the interview, Sabalenka said, “I never saw Jason drunk, so that’s the goal.” Remember, Jason Stacy is the strength and conditioning coach of the WTA star who joined forces with Sabalenka in 2018. But despite the long partnership and the strong bond, Sabalenka claimed to have never seen his unexpected side. However, it seems that she might have fulfilled her desire after the US Open win.

In a series of pictures shared by Stacy on Wednesday night, he can be seen enjoying a fun time with Sabalenka. In one of these pictures, he can be seen pouring a bottle of champagne on Sabalenka, highlighting the enjoyment the team had after the grand victory of the Belarusian star. But as the tennis player emerges herself in party mode, there is yet another desire she wishes to accomplish.

Speaking in the same podcast, Sabalenka said, “I’m still hungry, for sure. Another goal for sure is to try to become world No.1 again. But I don’t want to talk about this goal. I’m just trying to keep improving myself and keep getting better every day.” For the unversed, Sabalenka had held the position last year when she reached the No. 1 spot in September 2023. While she was soon ousted from her position, her focus in to retain it as soon as possible.

As the season progresses, it would be interesting to see if she can actually fulfil her wishes and outshine Iga Swiatek to clinch the spot in the WTA ranking.
