The 23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams, made a great start to this year’s US Open. Many fans and celebrities showed up to watch her matches, and among them was one of the greatest golfers of all time, Tiger Woods. He was present when Serena triumphed over the world no.2 Anett Kontaveit in her second round match.

At the press conference, Serena talked about the role Woods played in bringing her back to the tennis court. Moreover, she talked about having a conversation with the golfer during her long injury layoff.

When asked about Tiger Woods, Serena said, “He’s one of the reasons I’m here and one of the main reasons I’m still playing. So, we talked a lot, and he was really trying to get me motivated and there’s a few people but, he was like… we were like okay, we can do this together’.“
Speaking about the conversation she had with the golfer, she said, “It was good because it was like I did not know what I wanted to do but I just lost and… just so many questions. When you can rely on someone like that, I mean, my goodness, he’s Tiger Woods. It was just really helpful to get clarity.“
Notably, Woods and Serena share a great bond, as she often calls the golfer an inspiration. During her second-round match at the US Open, Woods was enthusiastically cheering for Serena from the stands. Even before the game, he was hyping Serena up, as she was getting ready to enter the court.

Back in 2019, Tiger Woods did the impossible as he won the Masters Tournament in Georgia at the age of 43. Moreover, this was his first Major win after 11 years. The whole world reacted to this miraculous performance by Woods, including Serena Williams.

“I am literally in tears,” Serena said after watching Woods win the tournament. Moreover, she praised the golfer for his comeback after many injury layoffs, as she felt inspired by him.

Meanwhile, we could see Woods again cheering from the stands of the Arthur Ashe Stadium during Serena’s third-round match at the US Open. In that match, she will play against the Australian player, Ajla Tomljanovic.
