After winning the final Grand Slam event of the year, Coco Gauff will not compete in the Tokyo Open. But Pegula has nothing to worry about. She has found someone new to team up with in the doubles category.
Recently, the Tennis Channel shared news regarding how, for the recent WTA tournament after the US Open, Pegula has paired with Ashlyn Krueger, another young player.
For the 75th-ranked tennis player, getting paired up with the 2023 Canadian Open champion might be one of the biggest breakthroughs of her tennis career. But not only that, there is a hidden connection that Krueger shares with the 29-year-old tennis star.

Krueger’s current coach, Michael Joyce, trained the fourth-ranked tennis player during her teenage years for around 7 years. Along with that, they also share a flourishing personal bond in such a way that Pegula is the “Godmother” of the 50-year-old’s daughter. Nevertheless, even though they are not together on the tennis court, they have always helped each other through thick and thin.
Recently Pegula talked about facing friends like Gauff and Keys on the tennis court. It is inevitable at such a high level.

After losing the fourth-round match to Madison Keys, Gauff talked about playing against her friends on the tennis circuit. She talked about how the 28-year-old is not given due credit for her achievements on the tennis court.
But the biggest question with Pegula and Gauff still remains: has the pair split up? If not, then why are they not playing the Doubles tournament together?
Pegula and Gauff prefer to keep their friendship apart from their professional rivalry. It was evident at the US Open as they juggled between the singles and doubles categories, trying to stay on the same page as both tennis players coped with a demanding and stressful schedule. Further, Gauff is currently preparing to compete in the WTA Finals as well, as she recovers from the strenuous American hard-court swing.
