Jessica Pegula had a brilliant outing in this year’s Madrid Open. she reached the finals of the clay-court tournament. Although she went down in that final against her Tunisian opponent, Ons Jabeur 5-7, 6-0, 2- 6. Jabeur survived both a set point in the first set and a second-set bagel. Although the result wasn’t on her side, Jessica took to Twitter and shared a picture of a champagne bottle. In the caption, she wrote how tennis is hard. And she also mentioned that there’s only two days gap at the start of her next tournament. While the loss in the Madrid Open finals would have disappointed her fans, she still looked cheerful as she mentioned celebrating the small moments.

Taylor Townsend Lauds Jessica Pegula

Taylor Townsend shared Jessica’s tweet. Lauding her fellow American tennis player for a brilliant run in the tournament. She wrote “Girl preach!! But worth it thoooo! So happy for you Jess!!”

 Notably, Taylor and Jessica are close friends and keep supporting each other. A few days ago, When Taylor won the ITF tournament in Charleston, Jessica congratulated her. Subsequently, Townsend reacted to the wonderful gesture by Pegula. this was the first tournament Taylor was playing after becoming a mother and she eventually won it.

Taylor gave birth to her son, Adyn Aubrey, in March 2021. Her last tournament before turning a mother was at the US Open in 2020. In that tournament, she reached the women’s doubles semifinals. However, in the singles, she bowed out in the opening round.

Jessica Keeps Climbing the Ranks

Jessica has kept moving upwards on the ranking table. She was having a career ranking of 63 at the start of 2021. But finished the year at rank 18th. she won several quarter-finals and semi-finals. Her victories came against the likes of Elina Svitolina, Naomi Osaka, and Aryna Sabalenka. Jessica had a strong run in the Australian Open earlier this year, reaching the quarter-final where she lost to the eventual champion Ashleigh Barty. She also made it to the semi-final of the Miami Open, where she went down against current world number 1 Iga Swiatek.

The 28-year-old yet again lost out in the final and missed out on her chance to win the second WTA title of her career. Pegula has just one singles career title to her name so far. In 2019, she beat Camila Giorgi to win the Washington Open.
