Coco Gauff is renowned not only for her incredible talent on the tennis court but also for her passionate activism. The young American star has consistently used her platform to advocate for Black lives, making her a prominent voice for social justice within the sports community. In her latest act of advocacy, Gauff took to her Instagram story to celebrate Juneteenth, a day that marks a significant moment in Black history.

Taking to her Instagram story, the 20-year-old shared a picture and captioned it, “Happy Juneteenth.” The image text highlighted the importance of the day and motivated people to voice themselves for racial equality. “May this day remind us to celebrate freedom and inspire us to continue the fight for racial equality.” This, however, is not the first time when Gauff celebrated the occasion. 

In 2020, Coco Gauff took to her social media to spread awareness about the day. She wrote, “For those who do not know what juneteenth is… please read this! #Juneteenth.” For the unversed, Juneteenth is a day to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. It was for the first time on June 19th, 1865, when a group of soldiers led by Major General Gordon Granger landed in Texas to inform that the slaves were now free. The 2023 US Open winner rallied her support behind activists during the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement. In a video that went viral, Coco was seen delivering a speech in her hometown of Delray Beach, FL. “I demand change now. You need to use your voice. No matter how big or small your platform is, you need to use your voice.

Former pro Mary Carillo praised her outspoken attitude and said, “She’s become an activist in the wake of [Black Lives Matter]” Meanwhile, the tennis star is currently on an interesting challenge off the court.

‘I’m winning right now,’ Coco Gauff shares interesting fact about a new challenge with boyfriend

Coco Gauff was on a break away from the court ahead of the eco-trans Ladies Open. In her time away from the court, she was not preparing for her match but was attempting to win the Reading Challenge against her boyfriend, Jalen Sera. Speaking on the media day, she revealed that she already finished reading twelve books.

[The reading challenge] started because I loved reading as a kid and I kind of lost it when I got older,” Gauff told reporters at media day. Continuing further, she revealed an interesting angle about the challenge. “So at first my goal was to read 12 books, one per month. Then my boyfriend has this thing where he reads the amount of books as the year we’re in, so 24 in 2024, 23 in 2023.”

Speaking further in the interview, she reflected on her competitive spirit. “So when he said he was going to read 24, I got super competitive and I doubled my goal to match his and I like trying to finish faster than him. I’m two books ahead, so I’m winning right now.”

Meanwhile, the 20-year-old is gearing up for her grass-court Grand Slam Wimbledon. It will be interesting to see if she can add another grand slam title to her name.
