The entire tennis fraternity hailed Venus Williams‘ landmark win over Camila Giorgi in Birmingham. The seven-time major champion once again proved her mettle and registered her first win over a top-50-ranked opponent since 2019. Despite eventually losing to Jelena Ostapenko in the next round, the fans were once again able to relive the feeling of ‘Queen V’ closing out matches.
Aside from receiving applause for her emphatic performance, Venus also stole the show with a hilarious post-match interview. Tennis reporter Blair Henley was certainly impressed by Williams’ humor alongside the level, of course. In a recent podcast with American doubles’ legend Bob Bryan, Henly spoke at length about Venus Williams’ victory.

Henley focused on a couple of specific comments from Venus after the long three-set battle in Birmingham. She said via The US Open Podcast, “Venus in her post-match interviews, if she decides she’s in a talkative mood, it’s hilarious. She said in the first match. ‘I can’t believe Camila Giorgi isn’t number one in the world’. She added that, you know, she hit some 120 mile plus per hour serves in that match? And she said, you know, it was like, I have missed this. there’s the personality.”
Henley also lauded Williams’ win and how she could keep going at 43 years of age. She added, “If I were her, I would hate the fact that everybody was mentioning my age. But I mean, not many people are doing it at 43.” It’s not the first instance of Venus Williams coming up with top-quality humor. She had given an iconic moment to the fans as recently as last year’s Wimbledon.
Venus Williams fires back at the journalist for a ridiculous question
During last year’s Wimbledon, Venus Williams paired up with Jamie Murray for mixed doubles. After their second round win, Venus was asked a really absurd question by one of the journalists. He asked her whether the purpose of the tournament was just for the experience or to go all the way. Stunned by the journalist’s question, Venus replied, “Are you gonna write a good article or halfway decent one?”
