41-Year-Old Serena Williams’ Legendary Possession Finds Its Way to a Historic Michigan Museum as She Becomes Part of Women’s History in Big Way

Michigan Women Forward “Herstory” Gallery at the Michigan History Museum proudly preserves the remarkable contributions of women throughout the state’s history in its fascinating collection of 2,000 items. You’ll soon find Serena Williams’ tennis racquet, which honors her as a worldwide tennis icon for her extraordinary talent in the very same gallery.

In addition to Williams’ celebrated career, the gallery also exhibits Senator Lorraine Beebe’s chamber pot, which symbolizes her fight for gender equality and the lack of women’s restrooms in the legislative space. These works of art are powerful reminders of the strength, resilience and accomplishment of women in Michigan.

Tobi Voigt, the Director of Museums at the Michigan History Center, expressed great enthusiasm about this significant addition. “We already manage over 100,000 historical collections that tell Michigan’s stories, so including (Serena Williams’ racquet) was such a great way to preserve women’s history in a way we haven’t been able to,” Voigt explained, as reported by WILX 10.
