Rick Macci, the coach and former American tennis player, has worked with a number of star athletes, including Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, and Andy Roddick. At an early age, Macci mentored Venus and Serena. Macci described the moment when Richard compared his girls to basketball star Michael Jordan in a special podcast about ‘King Richard.’

Former coach remembers an iconic moment of Venus and Serena Williams
‘King Richard’ is certainly generating a lot of buzz amongst fans across the world. The biopic revolves around the journey of Richard Williams and his determination to make his daughters tennis stars. Former coach of Serena and Venus, Rick Macci, reminisced about an interesting conversation he had with Richard Williams.
Rick Macci said, “I went up to Richard and I said let me tell you something because there’s more about Venus. I said you got the next female Michael Jordan on your hand and he put his arm around me and he goes, no brother man, I got the next two.”
When Macci was trying to compare Venus Williams to Michael Jordan, Richard had exceptional faith in both his daughters. As we saw in their careers, they both did turn out to be two of the greatest tennis players of all time, proving their father right.

When is ‘King Richard’ releasing?
The much-awaited biopic on the lives of Williams’ family is hitting the silver screen on 19th November, 2021. The American actor, Will Smith, is playing the lead role of Richard Williams. Demi Singleton and Saniyya Sidney are playing Serena and Venus Williams, respectively.
