Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert have given the tennis realm an unprecedented level of sportsmanship by being the toughest rivals yet biggest cheerleaders of each other. Their 80 match-rivalry could not surpass their long-lived friendship. The amalgamation of this winning-losing and trials of each other’s lives eventually gave the two a telepathic connection that boosted their friendship.

In a recent interview with Washington Post, Navratilova expressed her gratitude for having Evert in all those moments. She stated, “What stands out is the timing. It was always spot on.”

The telepathic connection between the two always made Evert take her friend’s side even before she knew what was happening. Navratilova explained, “Like she knew I was at a low point. I don’t know how she knew, but she did. It was like some kind of cosmic connection. Because it was uncanny.”

How did Evert know when to call Martina Navratilova?

It is not a fact that Chris Evert is not a psychic. However, what she knew with respect to Navratilova was the shared long history of their rivalry and friendship. So, she stated, “With all the experiences we had, winning and losing and comforting each other, I think we ended up having more compassion for each other than anybody in the world could have.”

And this compassion paved the way for both players to battle their biggest challenge-cancer. When Evert was diagnosed with 1C Ovarian cancer, Navratilova wore the rings gifted by Evert all the time. She took it out only when she herself was diagnosed with two cancers- one in her breast, and one in her throat.

However, the resilience of two of the greatest champions of all time has led them to take down the biggest battles of their lives.
