Does Alexis Ohanian's decision to leave Reddit for his daughters set a new standard for fatherhood?

Alexis Ohanian isn’t just a powerhouse in the business world—he’s a family man through and through! Whether he’s showering love on his wife, the legendary Serena Williams, or proudly doting on his daughters, Olympia and Adira, Ohanian has a knack for raising the bar when it comes to being a devoted husband and dad. But when it comes to fatherhood, Ohanian takes things to the next level. He’s not just about words—he’s about action. Case in point? His bold decision to step down from Reddit’s board of directors.

The 41-year-old engaged in an interaction with American sports journalist Jemele Hill for her November 8th episode of Spolitics. He deliberated on a wide range of factors including the impact of sports on personal lives, the future of women’s sports investment, and the importance of financial literacy for children. But what caught the attention to a great deal was his disclosure of his decision to leave the board of Reddit in 2020 and begin Seven Seven Six, which he attributes to his love for his daughters.

Speaking in the interaction, Ohanian shared, “When I resigned in protest from the Board of Reddit back in 2020, started 776, that was the start of a, I don’t know like a letter to my daughter, I guess now two daughters but at the time only one.” Remember, the Reddit co-founder stepped down as a sign of protest to the killing of George Floyd. He revealed that at the time, there were several groups on the platform which spread hatred for the black community. When Ohanian asked to block these groups, his team did not agree to it which forced Ohanian to eventually step down from the position, who was replaced by Michael Seibel. Ohanian now reflects that he took this decision just because he wanted to make his daughters proud.

“I wanted her to see her (Olympia) dad doing not just the best work of his career but doing it in a way she is going to be very proud of.” He also reflected on the success of the new venture he started and said, “what’s been wild is how well things have gone since and how there is some part of me that’s like God why didn’t I do it sooner.” He went on to reflect on her love for his daughters highlighting he wanted to impress them just like their mother does.

I know they’ll be very proud of their mom because they’ll hear people saying all the time how they should be and rightly so. But I am a really competitive person and I want them to be unreasonably proud of me too.” Ohanian added. Indeed! With 23 Grand Slams under her belt, Serena Williams has definitely made her fans and family members proud and Ohanian believes that his step to leave Reddit’s board will equally fill her daughters with pride. This, however, is not the first time when Ohanian has highlighted such love for his daughter.

In a recent post on X in October, the Reddit co-founder showered his admiration for his daughters and wrote, “I’m so proud to be a father to two amazing little girls. An absolute blessing.” He has also demonstrated his culinary skills on several occasions, making food and pancakes for his daughter. However, he faces criticism too for his immense love but Ohanian knows how to clap back at the naysayers.

When Serena Williams’ husband took a sharp dig at his critics

The amount of time that Alexis Ohanian spends with his daughters is something that many do not expect from successful entrepreneurs. However, he never fails to set dad goals which often does not go well with many in the business industry. Some even criticize him highlighting how he can use the time to grow his business. But the ‘Business Dad’ seems to accept no offense especially when the center of the debate is his daughters.

In an interaction with Taylor Smith for the Offseason NFC podcast, Ohanian opened up on the criticisms. “I have business folks I work with. I have got guys who sincerely think I am not nearly as committed as I am to success at work because they know that side of my persona,” he said. Continuing further, he added, “And it’s so wild, because I’m like, bro I know I outwork you, I know my returns are better than you. But I think it’s cute that you have this idea that I can’t be showing up for my kids, making some pancakes, and also show up to beat your a–. Doesn’t that sum it all up?
