Martina Navratilova has become a source of inspiration for millions around the world. The player made a name for herself by immigrating from her native country when she was just 18 and sought asylum in the USA. She remained stateless for years before gaining US citizenship.

After leading a glorious career, at the age of 53, the player faced a huge setback, and it was discovered that she had breast cancer. The player, despite her bold and confident demeanor, faced issues with radiotherapy and talked about how it affected her.

What was the most exhaustive part of the process for Navratilova?

After getting diagnosed with cancer, the player had to talk about it a lot which drained her out. When asked in an interview in 2010 about the most difficult part, she replied, “Just having to talk about it. Every interview now, it comes up. That’s difficult.” She expressed her frustration with the extensive process of radiotherapy. She said, “(I am) just generally recovering from feeling like a piece of meat.”

Furthermore, she talked about the process which drained out her energy too. She said, “You go there and get radiated every day; go under this machine and it zaps your boob. It zaps your energy as well.”Navratilova did not shy away from making a forthright comparison of the situation. She stated, “It’s like getting hit over the head with a bat and then you keep coming back the next day and the next day.

The player had just finished her course in radiotherapy. Her doctors gave her a green signal but the process in itself was an arduous task. Its discovery shocked the player as she had always kept her health as her priority.

However, as no rival could defeat Navratilova’s spirit on the court, cancer too did not persist for long. The player completed her therapy and focused on recovery. T he18-time grand slam champion and former world no. 1 Navratilova still stays connected with tennis and does television commentary for tours.
