Coaches are one of the most important parts of a tennis player as they help shape the player. Usually, one coach is enough for a player, but sometimes two heads are better than one. However, too many cooks spoil the broth, and Emma Raducanu faces a similar situation. The Briton player is looking to come back this year, but her father is employing too many coaches, which is hampering her game.
Raducanu’s return has been anticipated by many stars around the world. The youngster has impressed legends like Andy Roddick, who spoke about her recently in his podcast, Served with Andy Roddick. He was joined by Jon Wertheim, who pointed out the problem of her father being obsessed with employing several coaches to guide her.
Wertheim said, “Great kid, the father of the bit of a handful, and I know people who have interviewed to be coach and have walked away saying “Yikes”, and I know that the father at one point was talking about having different coaches for different strokes.”

He then said, “Why do you just need one coach? You have one coach to teach you how to return. You have another coach for backhand, another hand for forehand. We applaud innovation; we applaud outside-the-box thinking. At the same time, I’m not sure that’s a great bit of chaos; it doesn’t really suggest stability.”
The 2021 US Open champion couldn’t manage to go past round 2 in any tournament in 2024 before the BNP Paribas Open. She found some success here as she finally managed to win a round 2 clash but couldn’t manage to go further. While Wertheim believes Raducanu needs stability, Roddick believes she needs experience.

Andy Roddick believes Emma Raducanu needs to get in the rhythm
In a previous episode of his podcast, Roddick talked with Wertheim about Raducanu and said that she needs to get matches under her belt if she wants to rise to the top once again. “Right now, she has to work her way back. She has not played enough matches. For her, she needs matches anywhere. I don’t care if it’s in a parking lot for a dollar. You need matches to get back into the rhythm of things.”
He referred to the comeback of Andre Agassi when he played Challenger-level events, to slowly come back to the top and continue his slam-winning ways. The Briton youngster has found dominance early on in her career and lost it.
