Jessica Pegula has achieved four victories in the year-end tournament till now. She has secured her position as the first finalist of the tournament. Recently, after winning the semi-final round against her doubles partner, Coco Gauff, she sat down to have a conversation with the tennis channel, talking about how the conditions worked better on her path.

Along with that, the American tennis star also highlighted how her South Florida practice helped her adapt to those windy conditions. She said, “It feels very familiar. I mean, usually I don’t know if it’s been this windy where I’m playing; you know that much, but we’re definitely familiar with it. Yeah, I think that definitely helps, but I mean, usually, I was saying I haven’t always been good in the wind. I’m actually; I used to be so bad in the wind.” Pegula seems to have surprised even herself.

Further, Jessica Pegula also clarified that she has never been good on the wind, but this time, the timing worked quite perfectly for her on the court. Subsequently, she also highlighted how playing in the Middle East can get tougher than the Cancun weather, so maybe she has gotten used to the windy conditions while practicing tennis there at the same time.

However, on one hand, the weather has benefited the fifth-ranked tennis player, but it has not been that great for other players, as they were left struggling during the tournament. Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff are some of those tennis players who have struggled with the unforgiving weather conditions.

Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff struggle with the strong wind weather

The lack of a roof on the newly constructed arena has left the tournament vulnerable to the unforgiving eccentricities of the unpredictable local weather. The third-round match between the 19-year-old tennis player and Markéta Vondroušová ended in a bang. However, the strong winds and rain interrupted the battle just moments into it, preventing either of the two champions from showcasing their skills.

Similarly, bad weather caused by crosswinds, bad bouncers, and rain delays made it difficult for even Sabalenka to perform at her best. The 2023 Australian Open champion’s match was repeatedly postponed because of the heavy rain and strong winds that followed, just like Gauff’s third-round match. Despite facing challenges due to the weather, she managed to secure a spot in the tournament semifinals.
