Danielle Collins is a “complete package.” The Danimal showed her true prowess on the court as she claimed her first Masters title in the Miami Open, beating Elena Rybakina. She then won the Charleston Open, making it the fourth title of her career. The aggression she has displayed has astounded many, including a former ATP pro who was left stunned by her performance in both tournaments.

2001 Miami Open finalist Jan-Michael Gambill opened up about Collins’ “unbelievable” performances in the last two tournaments in a podcast with Tennis Channel. The form Collins has donned currently made him believe that she can ‘bully’ any opponent at the moment.

After she won the Charleston Open, Collins accomplished her first-ever back-to-back title feat. To that, Gambill said, “It’s unbelievable she’s playing at that level for those all those weeks in a row. Um, she has it in her one of the hardest hitters on the tour, so can go out there and just bully her opponents when she’s playing well and has done that in the past. Has she done it for three weeks in a row, basically? I don’t know about that, but uh, I’m loving it.”

Collins won Miami and Charleston back-to-back, beating opponents she had never beaten before and only dropping one set on her way to both victories. She played with intensity and panache, and it came to reward her greatly. While the tennis world is witnessing a version of the Danimal, Gambill believes that she is not showing her complete personality on the court at the moment.

As the American 30-year-old continues to beat player after player, she is showing the side of her, which is passionate about tennis. Her tennis persona consumes her, and she becomes an aggressive player to finish her opponent. Gambill, in the same segment, said that tennis fans are missing a prominent aspect of her personality.  

“I love her personality. I love seeing her smile because sometimes she gets so angry in the court we’re not seeing much of that smile, but when she’s winning, we get to know about her kind of quirky fun personality. She’s extremely likeable person, and it has not let people in that often until we’re seeing now, so I think it’s just great we’re getting the complete package, uh, of the Danimal.”
