Later, Bencic was set up for a high-profile match against her American colleague, Taylor Townsend, at the Guadalajara Open. However, Townsend was given a walkover as her Swiss opponent announced her withdrawal before the commencement of the tournament.

Apart from this, the former world No. 4 player also skipped the entire Asian hard court swing as she didn’t mark her participation at various events like the Japan Open and the WTA 1000 event in Beijing.
