Legendary American tennis player Chris Evert had an astonishing career on the WTA tour, winning an incredible 18 singles Grand Slam titles. However, that was not the case with her younger sister, Jeanne Evert Dubin.

Notably, Dubin passed away from ovarian cancer at the age of 62 in 2020. Back in the day, she talked about having expectations from everybody, as her elder sister was a very successful tennis player. She once described how such expectations impacted her career.

Back in the day, when Dubin turned pro in 1973 at just 15 years of age, her sister Chris was already an established player. She often talked about the media calling her ‘the other Evert’.
Speaking about this to the New York Times in 1976, she said, “I guess people expect me to be something I’m not. They feel I let them down. They said I was going to be a great tennis player. At least No. 2.”
However, Dubin’s career did not go exactly as planned, as she retired from professional tennis in 1978 after meeting her future husband, Brahm Dubin. She achieved a career-high ranking of 28 in the same year. Moreover, she reached the number 4 spot in the doubles rankings after playing with her sister Chris Evert for a couple of years on the tour.

Earlier, Chris Evert talked about her inspiring battle with Ovarian cancer, as she gave credit to her sister Dubin. Notably, her younger sister passed away in 2020 from the same disease. Later, Evert and her family found out that the cancer can be passed on genetically.

It prompted Chris to get tested, and subsequently identify the cancer at a relatively early stage. After her diagnosis and several chemotherapy sessions, the doctors told her that she had a better chance of recovering from the cancer than her sister.

Later in an interview, Evert thanked her late sister for the contribution she made during her 2 and a half-year battle with Ovarian cancer. Meanwhile, Evert completed her sixth and final chemotherapy session in May, and shared the joyful news with her fans on Twitter.
