“Business dad life never stops,” Serena Williams‘ Husband and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian had said back in 2020. But that surely pauses from time to time to create some happy moments of a lifetime. Ohanian, the father of two adorable daughters, Olympia and Adira, just had one such amid his busy entrepreneurial life.
For someone as successful as Ohanian, the line between work and life can be easily blurred. But Ohanian has time and again proved that “there is more to life than work,” as Bill Gates had said once. Therefore, as a recent work trip concluded, her daughters took over the homecoming, showering all the love on their dad. And the proud dad could not stop himself from sharing with his followers.
Ohanian, a regular on social media, took to his official X handle to share the moment that expressed his joy at seeing his daughters after being hard at work. “that first hug from my girls after a work trip,” he tweeted. Ohanian’s post resonated with several fathers, who shared their happiness at seeing their children again after some time apart. Ohanian had a message for them.

Ohanian’s post received a comment from the host of The Present Father’s podcast, Dustin Burnham, who said he can’t wait to be in Ohanian’s shoes, as he will have a daughter soon. To Burnham’s comment, Ohanian advised, “Hug ’em tight! Keep em close esp those early years.” Indeed, Ohanian himself has done that on more than one occasion.

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian welcomed their two daughters in 2017 and 2023. In the latest episode of the Business Dad podcast, the co-owner of Angel City FC said that it has transformed him, looking beyond himself. Therefore, even when he is on a work trip, he spares a thought for her daughters. In 2018, Olympia’s Instagram page saw the then 1-year-old wearing a pink kimono set that her father brought for her after a business trip. “Papa can’t help himself… always brings me something from business trips. 👘 東京!”- the image was captioned.

Ohanian also ensures he is active with his daughter, as he has plans ahead for making pancakes with Olympia. The tradition began in his childhood when his father would cook for him. Now, he continues it with his eldest daughter, with his younger one also likely to join them soon. Olympia and Alexis also play golf often, and Ohanian shares her progress regularly. Keeping them such close heart, Ohanian still can not forget that first moment of picking up her daughter.

“The first time I held my baby was the first time I really held a kid. And it was terrifying. I am big fella, and this was a little itty bitty baby in my hand, and it’s such a humbling feeling. You know you can’t f**k this up. Those first few months were world-changing because they gave me confidence that I could handle it, that I could figure it out, that I’m not going to break her,” Ohanian had expressed in an interview with GQ in 2020. But does that strike a chord with Ohanian’s entrepreneurial self?
Dad duties are like nothing else, says Alexis Ohanian
In the 2020 GQ interview, Ohanian was asked if there are any similarities between nurturing a child and nurturing a new company. For Ohanian, this was not as simple as yes or no.

“I was guilty of describing my startups in those terms: it’s your “baby,” it’s your “kid.” It is very different. But being an entrepreneur prepared me for the 24/7 awareness. You never really shut off as an entrepreneur. The business is always on in your head, and that part very much exists in the mind of a new parent—or at least it does for me. It’s ever-present: ‘Oh right, this is a responsibility that I’m going to have for the rest of my life,'” Ohanian had explained. But, it seems, somewhere the dad takes precedence for Ohanian.
In an Instagram post after Olympia’s birth, Ohanian was quick to point out, “Dad life is the greatest,” declaring, “she is my legacy.” In an interview with Business Insider, Ohanian spoke about how his generation has started embracing this fact. “Luckily, I think the generation of CEOs around me are starting to understand this and want to be amazing leaders, partners, *and* dads. It’s like a whole new era of fatherhood is emerging – we are trying to do our best work, but show up in ways our Dad’s didn’t (or couldn’t.)” Indeed, Alexis Ohanian is leading the change!
