American legend Serena Williams hardly just watches a game, she almost immerses herself in it. When she stepped into the commentator’s chair at LAGC’s TGL match against Jupeital Links on January 14, she drew a bit of flak. Some criticized her golf knowledge, others cheered her on, but the bottom line was — Serena was the center of attention, as always. A couple of days later on January 16, Serena attended the TGL again and this time, it was a family affair with her husband and elder daughter bringing energy only she could. And just when the buzz seemed to fade, another Serena moment stole the spotlight but this time instead of criticism, it was a pure reaction from her husband Alexis Ohanian.

Williams attended LAGC’s match against New York Golf Club at Florida’s SoFi Center. And, her team secured a 5-4 win in overtime, booking a playoff spot in the debut edition of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s innovative golf tournament. They were trailing 4-0 on the 12th tee with as low as 2% chance to turn the table.

However, LAGC made a roaring comeback with Sahith Theegala’s 28-foot birdie that kept their chances alive. The match reached its climax when LAGC used the Hammer to double the hole’s value and Tony Finau tackled the par-4 13th hole, sealing the victory.

Serena, LAGC’s co-owner, was overwhelmed with the outcome. She stood up from her chair and jumped with her hands up in the air. The moment was caught on camera and was shared by the official IG pages of TGL Golf, PGA Tour, and LAGC. Serena’s husband Alexis Ohanian, who is also a co-owner of LAGC, shared the video on his IG story, expressing immense joy. Wife’s candid reaction left him thrilled, as he wrote, “Put it in my veins.”

The Reddit co-founder attended LAGC’s match against Atlanta Drive on 17th February as well. Accompanied by his wife Serena Williams and elder daughter Olympia, he witnessed LAGC’s loss against Arthur Blank’s team by 6-5. Despite LAGC’s lead by 5-2 with four holes left, they couldn’t finish on the right side of the result. While it was heartbreaking, the Williams-Ohanian family enjoyed Tommy Fleetwood’s brilliant performance.

Serena later shared a reel on her IG story that featured her husband sending his “hi” to her followers from the SoFi Center. They made the match quite a family affair with their energetic presence. For Alexis Ohanian, this is not just a part of his business, but much more than that. It’s his way to promote the sport that is close to his elder daughter’s heart.

Alexis Ohanian’s wish to build a legacy through LAGC

In an interview previously, Ohanian said, “To wit, my wife Serena [Williams] and I have enjoyed as Olympia’s taken a liking to golf. This is another piece of the legacy I’m building for my family and I hope this team can become a part of many families’ lives, too.”

The 41-year-old saw a small fulfillment of his vision through the debut edition of the TGL. Speaking about his experience, he wrote on LinkedIn, “WHAT. A. NIGHT. ⛳️ The Los Angeles Golf Club debut in the TGL was absolutely insane. Loved every bit of it + not to mention a 12-1 opening win… are you kidding me?! SHEESH. Great work team 🔥🔥

His wife echoed his emotions. “It’s so exciting to be here as a team owner and just get a different look at things.” She also reflected on the walkouts, which added flair to the sport: “It’s so wild. It’s something you see a little bit in tennis or all the time in basketball, right? We don’t really see it in golf. Actually, we never see that in golf. It’s so good to see their personalities and see them shine as golfers, as they are,” said Serena, in an interview with ESPN earlier.
