Remember when Serena Williams sent her followers into a shockwave by trying to catch a chicken? Well, it was February 2023, when one fine morning Williams and her techie husband took American television star Gayle King to their Florida farm and introduced her to the animals on their farm. The moment which was later shown on CBS Mornings went viral. It also revealed Williams’ inclination towards nature. Now Fast forward two years, Serena is back on her farm and this time, she showcases her knowledge about trees.

Williams is in Florida, attending the TGL where she is cheering for her team LAGC. Yesterday, she and her family witnessed their team’s disappointing defeat against Atlanta Drive GC. Post-match, Serena returned to her farm, which is in Florida, and offered a small glimpse of her lush green garden. It wasn’t an insightful little session with the legend.

Rare footage of me at my farm, where I am just picking the meringue, umm things off their trees, I don’t know what they are called, So when I am, I do a lot of cooking, I make lots of tees from leaves, I dehydrate things and I am like a little bit of a, I don’t know, naturalist. But I don’t really talk about it a lot,Serena said in a reel.

As she delved into her story, Williams added an insight about the meringue seeds. “I take these leaves off the tree, from the meringue tree, and then I dehydrate them and make teas out of them. And also these seeds if you like, wet them like if you stay you know for a few days and then if you eat them, you poop a lot so really good for your digestive system,” she revealed.

The American legend embraced veganism after suffering from a pulmonary embolism and a hematoma in 2011. Her change of diet wasn’t just propelled by her commitment to the sport but her intention to nurture her body as well, inside out.

She shed light on her eating philosophy in an interview with Women’s Health magazine during a Nintendo gaming event in 2021. “My philosophy is – eat to live. Don’t live to eat. I want to have a healthy lifestyle and, so you know, [I’m eating] a lot of greens and mostly plant-based lately just super healthy stuff, he disclosed.

Serena Williams’ farm showcases her love for animals

When she took Gayle King to her farm, she tried to catch a chicken with an upfront confession: “I’ve never touched them. I like dogs.”  However, things became quirkier when she introduced King to one of her cows and told her that its name was Antonio Enrique Cortez Leche, inspired by Antonio Banderas, Enrique Iglesias, and the movie Spy Kids. She later hilariously disclosed about letting her elder kid do the naming.  Last year, she posted pictures from her farm and reflected on her humble beginnings. “…from Compton to Country,” she wrote in the caption, featuring the acres of land with her horses in the background.

Williams also took a stand against the unethical treatment of the animals in food and fashion industries and introduced a vegan leather line S by Serena. It was launched in the 2020 Spring collection of the New York Fashion Show.

S by Serena, however, discontinued its collection last year, but her advocacy for nature and animals remains the same. Do you admire Serena’s empathetic personality? Well, who wouldn’t?
