Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard, who turned 27 on Thursday, received a birthday gift that she would, perhaps, cherish more than any other.
Currently at a faraway 142nd spot in the women’s rankings, which hardly does justice to her talent and potential, Bouchard took to Twitter to share a birthday post from a follower who calls herself her “proud, true, loyal fan”.

The diehard fan, whose Twitter handle @Genieforlife suggests as much, heaped praise on the tennis star, calling her “an amazing role model for many people around the world”.
In more heartwarming words for the 27-year-old, the fan called her the “most kind-hearted, genuine person I have ever met”.
Canadian’s Australian Open 2021 qualification ends in failure
Bouchard, or Genie as she is nicknamed by her fans, couldn’t secure passage to the main women’s draw at the Australian Open after failing to clear the qualifying rounds in Dubai. However, playing at the WTA Istanbul event last year, she did show flashes of brilliance and the kind of play that got her to a career-high ranking of World Number 5 on October 20, 2014.
Bouchard reached the final of the event and was in sight of her second career WTA title. But she fell at the last hurdle, losing in three sets to Romanian Patricia Maria Tig. However, her run to the final had fueled hopes of her making the cut at the Australian Open this year.
But the Canadian fell to a straight-set defeat to Chinese Yue Yuan in the second round of the qualifiers.

She did make the third round of the French Open last year but lost to eventual champion Iga Swiatek.
In a special wish for the Canadian on her birthday, the fan wrote, “…please never change one bit because you’re perfect just the way you are”.
