Emma Raducanu is finding it extremely tough to get back to form after a serious foot injury. Her last appearance was in Korea Open where she had to withdraw from the QF after an aggravated pain. Although she’s working on making a comeback, it seems like one grave mistake from the Brit may have led to her extended delay. It may hamper her chances of appearing on the court in time.
This year has been an unexpected rollercoaster for Emma. After showing snippets of her game in Nottingham and Eastbourne, she managed to make it to R16 at the Wimbledon. Since then, however, the journey has been not-so-smooth for Rads. The 2021 US Open champion believes she might have made a mistake in trying to make a return too soon.
Talking to HSBC, one of her key sponsors, Emma Raducanu confessed, “In 2023, I underwent three surgeries and was out of the circuit for eight months. Moreover, the recovery was not as fast as we had hoped. Initially, the plan was to return four months after the surgery, but I ended up needing double the time because I returned to the courts too soon and caused further damage. I think that taught me a lesson, a lesson about patience and not trying to rush processes.”

According to the young tennis star, she put her recovery on the backseat. Instead, she chose to play when it was time to take rest after having major surgeries last year. But now she’s understood the value of patience. She wants give as much time as possible to her body and get fully fit. If there’s one thing Emma Raducanu has learned so far, it’s to respect and appreciate her body and the overall well-being. “When you come back to the circuit, you need time to reach the level that this sport demands. Matches are different from trainings, introduce an element of unpredictability, so right now I am much more grateful for my health than my results,” she said.
