Is Emma Raducanu's career in jeopardy with these recurring injuries, or can she bounce back stronger?

Misfortune has no end for Emma Raducanu. The Briton has been ridiculed with troubles these past few months and just when things start looking up, the young talent is kept from prevailing. After much excitement around her return at the Korea Open and notably, gaining some momentum initially, Raducanu has been gunned down by physical restraints. This, in turn, has taken a significant toll on her Asian swing participation.

Following a quarter-final walkover in Seoul, wherein she faced concerns surrounding ligament sprains, Raducanu has announced a saddening update. The former World No. 10’s recent hardships have incapacitated her, eliciting her to withdraw from the upcoming China Open in Beijing, slated to commence on September 25.

A truly disheartening situation for Raducanu. She said, “Hello, last week in Seoul I sprained some ligaments in my foot which unfortunately need some more time to heal. It means I can’t play in Beijing but I hope to be back competing as soon as I can.”

Furthermore, her recent rise up the ranking to No. 54 also enabled her a straight main draw slot in Beijing. She would’ve dueled with home favorite Qinwen Zheng in R2, had she prevailed over a qualifier in the event’s opener.

For those unaware, this isn’t her first rodeo of enduring injuries. Persistent physical restrictions have hampered the British sensation’s momentum, having gone under the knife to remedy a trio of concerns to her wrist and ankles. However, that’s not the end of it. Naturally, it would be incomplete to neglect her rise in form this season.

“I just play so much better when I’m happy and putting my personality out there. I think I’ve been playing a lot freer in the last month. I have been expressing myself, I’ve been fighting and there has been a lot of passion, I’ve been feisty. And that’s me. I’m tenacious and gritty.”

For now, fans can only pray for Raducanu’s speedy recovery. If all goes well, the Briton should be up on her feet before the season’s conclusion and with it, mark her attendance in year’s residual WTA events.
