Emma Raducanu has always been vocal about trolling. She has never shied away from giving it back to her critics on social media. However, the British tennis star often finds herself wrapped in the wide spectrum of trolling, and the recent incident is no exception. In a latest video, Emma’s surprising selections left fans in shock, triggering a wave of extensive trolling.

Emma Raducanu was not seen on the tennis courts since April this year until today when she made a comeback at the Nottingham Open. While her comeback match was nothing but a portrayal of her healthy return, it could not help her being trolled by the fans. In a social media video that is now going viral, the 21-year-old participated in an online game. She was supposed to pick tennis players based on their skills. Her choices, however, either seemed sarcastic or reflected a lack of information, as some were far from reality.

In the video, Emma can be seen making some out-of-the-box choices as she picked Aryna Sabalenka as the player with the Best Mentality and Stefanos Tsitsipas over Rafael Nadal as the Best Forehand. An X user was quick to observe this and share it on the platform. Trolling the 2021 US Open winner, the video was captioned “Tell me you don’t watch tennis without telling me you don’t watch tennis,” by the user. Well, this is not the first time when Emma is witnessing a situation like this.

Emma had fallen prey to severe trolling soon after she lost the 2022 Wimbledon in the second round. This was also speculated to have impacted her mentally. The tennis sensation had also put up a story on Instagram of a signboard that read, “Less social media.” However, her recent video did not appease the Tennis fans at all, as she has once witnessed heavy trolling.

Emma’s choice did not sit well with the fans

Soon after the video of Emma making opinions about the skills of the players went viral, fans quickly took her under the scanner. Commenting on the video, one user took a jibe at her partnership with Dior and wrote, “This is what happens when you spend too much time attending Dior functions.” For the unversed, Emma joined the house of Dior as an ambassador in 2021 reportedly in a £2 million partnership, shortly after her US Open victory.

Another user took a jibe at Aryna, calling her ‘mentally ill.’ “EMMA 🤣 mentally ill well yes,” the fan wrote pointing at Sabalenka’s mental condition. The current world number 3 has often expressed her inability to control her anger and revealed that she worked on her mental game. Aryna had also sought the help of a Psychologist in the past. In such a scenario as this, choosing her in the category of Mentality was surely surprising for fans. Well, the series of trolling did not end here.

Another user highlighted that when one is away from the game for a very long time, such decisions are expected. “She haven’t played real tennis for a while that’s why,” the user wrote. Emma had missed most of her season in 2023 following a wrist injury. She also had a minor procedure done on both hands and an ankle surgery. In 2024 too, she sustained a lower back injury and missed important tournaments like the French Open.

Another user expressed shock over Emma’s choices. “SHE CANT BE SERIOUS PLS 😭😭” Some even went to the extent of calling the 21-year-old silly over her choices. “Emma ur so silly,” a user wrote on X. Emma herself has had a fair share of trolling after winning the US Open in 2021. Tennis star Emma Raducanu’s comments about “regretting” her historic US Open win sparked a funny reaction from Corentin Moutet.

In 2021, Raducanu became the first qualifier ever to win a Grand Slam title at the US Open. However, the immense pressure and scrutiny that followed have left her with mixed feelings. In a conversation with The Sunday Times, she confessed to sometimes wishing she hadn’t won the championship. “I sometimes think to myself I wish I’d never won the US Open,” Emma said. This sentiment drew a humorous response from Moutet, who himself claimed his first Challenger title in Brest back in 2017:

As the trolling remains unabated, it will be interesting to see if Emma returns to these in her distinctive style. Known for her resilience, Emma has never shied away from addressing her detractors. Meanwhile, her professional career is back in focus as she gears up for another Grand Slam title, taking on her opponents on the grass courts of Nottingham.
