Is Emma Navarro's success proof that family support is the ultimate game-changer in sports?

“The apple doesn’t fall very far from the tree!” This old saying particularly fits the American tennis sensation, Emma Navarro, as she takes the grass court by storm. Her calm and composed attitude on the court has tricked many minds, including that of the legend, Martina Navratilova. Her being a young, energetic, and competitive player with such an ‘experienced’ attitude on the court makes everyone curious from where she inherited this trait. Her father, Ben Navarro, might have provided an answer to this during her teenage years!

After her 3R win at the Wimbledon championships, Navarro surprised Navratilova with her ‘calm and moving on attitude.’ However, tennis fans need not be curious, as the cat is out of the bag. As this trait might run in the Navarro family! Back in 2019, the No.19 seed’s father bought the Charleston Open tournament. During a 2019 interview, with the teenager Navarro sitting beside her father, he heartily revealed one practice he is passionate about. “I’m a big yoga practitioner.”– he said.

The billionaire, while narrating the additions done to improve the experience of the tournament for players and fans, opened up about yoga being a part of the championship. He said, “For example, there was a yoga event this morning… So that was particularly fine.” Yoga essentially relates to meditation, calmness, and improving the integrity of the body, among other benefits.

Moreover, Navarro’s father himself was an athlete during his younger days. Hence, it makes all the more sense that she may have learned the calmness trait by watching her father practice. And she might have inherited the best from Sr. Navarro as he proudly watches his daughter take on fellow compatriot and World No.2, Coco Gauff in R4.

The Apple certainly look after the tree! Navarro’s calm and composed side has helped her move on fast from her big win over Naomi Osaka, to continue her streak in R3. However, this is not the only attitude that has left tennis fans surprised. But the 23-year-old also showcased a tinge of innocence which left everyone in glee and Navarro a bit embarrassed!

A unique “I wasn’t sure” Centre Court experience for Emma Navarro

It was her first walk to the celebrated Centre Court of the Grass slam. However, it didn’t turn out as Navarro would have anticipated, as she wasn’t aware of the protocol to be followed. Consequently, she walked through the majestic gates and entered the lavish green with a doubtful thought and a bit of embarrassment!

Is Emma Navarro's success proof that family support is the ultimate game-changer in sports?

Have an interesting take?

Narrating the happenings of her Centre Court debut, she said, “I wasn’t sure about Center Court Protocol, no introduction, no music, nothing they just open the big doors and you walk out and I was walking out first and really wasn’t sure if I was supposed to be doing what I was doing.”

No harm done, as the pristine tournament let such things slide. However, her fans certainly won’t let her slip on the grass as they will stand behind her with all their might as she gets ready to scale the Coco Gauff wall in R4!
