Tennis sensation Coco Gauff is no stranger to the limelight. With her impressive skills and bright personality, she has captured the hearts of fans around the world. But during a recent media day at the BNP Paribas Open, the young athlete provided a moment to remember that had nothing to do with her performance on the court.
During an interview with the Tennis Channel, Gauff was asked to make a prediction for the Best Picture winner at the upcoming Academy Awards. After some deliberation, she selected the movie “Everything Everywhere All At Once”. But just as she was about to elaborate on her reasoning, her arm hit the microphone, cutting off her audio.

One of WTA’s most popular icons, Coco Gauff, provided a moment of levity during media day at the BNP Paribas Open on Wednesday. Gauff was answering a range of questions for a series of Tennis Channel’s social media reels when attention shifted towards the Academy Awards. The reel had the words ‘When Coco Karate chops the mic’ at the start, and fans could only find out the reason towards the end of the reel.
The interviewer asked Gauff to make her prediction for the Best Picture, to which she replied, “This is a tough list. I feel like it’s not going to be Avatar (The Way Of Water) even though that’s what I would pick.”

The unexpected moment had everyone on set laughing, including Gauff herself. But she quickly regained her composure and joked that she must have psychic abilities, as she had previously almost predicted a Super Bowl performance by Rihanna.
Gauff laughed off the incident, saying, “Sorry, do we have to redo that question? What I was saying, I almost predicted Rihanna’s Super Bowl thing, so if I predict this, I can clearly see into the future. You can call me Raven-Symoné.” Just as she was about to end her predictions, the camera man mentioned ‘Karate Kid’ to poke fun at Gauff cutting off the audio. However, the teenage sensation embraced the moment and said, “Karate chop, Karate Kid”.
Despite the mishap, Gauff’s prediction for the Best Picture winner is now on record. Fans will have to wait and see if her foresight proves to be accurate when the awards show airs on March 27.
