Like any other field in the world, tennis is not a sport devoid of controversy. Recently, during a WTA 250 event, the sport was consumed by a scandal. The opening round of the Hungarian Open created an infamous incident which included Amarissa Kiara Tóth removing a mark when her opponent, Zhang Shuai, asked for other officials to check the legitimacy of an out call. After the incident, both fans and pundits chastised Tóth for her behavior. She issued an apology for her acts recently, which evoked mixed reaction.
During a return, Shuai hit the ball crosscourt, which was called out. After a challenge, the decision was sustained, even though the mark was seemingly on the line. After an argument, the Chinese player decided to escalate the issue. As tournament officials rushed in to resolve the issue, Tóth removed the mark with her feet and defended her actions in the post match presser.
